As much as we appreciate the opportunity and openness offered by the areas we live in, we need to continue the struggle to help everyone be more accepting of our differences.

I'm teaching in a High School in Ottawa, Canada and even if same sex mariage is accepted, I work in a french catholic school where sometime it feel like we live 40 years in the past. I'm out to my close colleague but I can't at the student. Often, students need a role model to show that we can have a normal life, a relationship and not be afraid to who they are. At their age, they have to decide what they want to do in their life, but the system are made in the way they choose your sexual orientation, your religious believe and even sometime what your carrer will be. And on top of this, they have to speack french in class when Ottawa is mostly english.
Last year, I had 2 gay and 1 lesbian in my medias classroom, even if they where not completely out, the other kids understanding that they where different and it was well accepted. Its was great to see the openminded of the kids compare to some of my colleague who sometime saying very not openminded jokes or comments.
This year we have a club call the inclusion group, who anyone can be accepted animated by a teacher and sometime even the school priest. Its the closer we will probably get an GLBT group.
Thank you again for sharing your storie with us.

Thanks Jason to be proud to be who you are.

I’m teaching in a High School in Ottawa, Canada and even if same sex mariage is accepted, I work in a french catholic school where sometime it feel like we live 40 years in the past. We can only hope that times are changing that we are more accepting of people no matter their color, religion, sexual orientation and gender. Kids can be so cruel sometimes and the support you and other organizations can give is a start.

Jason thank you for sharing your experience.
