I am a spacecase, obviously the speed depends on the encoder for the lossy format, so maybe it would take longer, like 15 minutes or somesuch.

Uhh… I am a spacecase, obviously the speed depends on the encoder for the lossy format, so maybe it would take longer, like 15 minutes or somesuch.

By: Joshua Rodman

<guid

Given that flac encodes at around 100x realtime on a typical modern machine, this can work well for 1-2gb flash player, which hold around 10 albums, ie. 10 hours, 600m, 6m download. For a harddrive based player it's not as great.
For terms of richness of third party tools, widespread device support, and speed, I recommend FLAC over ALAC, but the apple stuff might make ALAC easier for you.

A lot of people just use a script to recode from flac/alac to ogg/mp3/etc while loading data onto their music player.
