out before the crazies 1

still doing some tests with this new lens.

i shot this image of ryan in front of this big building on the corner of sansome and california, in san francisco. i managed to get it done before the sun got too high and the streets fill up with too many crazies/tourists.

so today i learned the lens does ok close up (~2ft distance) with a subject. at farther distances, the image circle can’t cover 8×10.. but at this distance, the lens is far enough out it can project enough. not too bad for a 5×8 lens.

i’m also loving the falloff and bokeh with this one.

the lens is a triple-convertible, i should try the other two combinations.

i’m also wishing i had more time to manufature camera parts, but i don’t. i have two lens boards. one is an original burke&james 8×10 lens board. the other, a no-name board with a universal iris mounted. i want to have a new board built that fits exactly like the b&j, but is thick enough and have sufficient opening to have the iris mounted.

Oh yeah - love the look of this shot. You’re right about the falloff. I love it.
