my poor generation,
we’re on for the ride,
an ocean of choices,
pulled out on the tide.
we’re handed a beach ball,
and told to pick a side.
drowned in information.
my poor generation.
my poor generation
don’t know what it means,
the shock of the mountain
compared to magazines.
is it timeless and holy,
or just a hill of beans?
lost in union station.
my poor generation.
“my poor generation”, moxy fruvous

ok, so the more it stews in my mind, the more i want to push and make things happen. i’m moving forward on resurrecting the camera/flim club.
40% excited, 60% intimidated.

this is another image from my river delta drive on saturday. this is small church in the town of courtland, along route 160.
what caught my attention was the one piece aluminum spire. on this particular shot, i used front swing to bring into focus both the front plane of the church and the diamon shaped street sign to the left.
maybe a recurring theme of my photographs is random driving. an incidental travelogue of sorts.
ya.

on saturday i went for a drive along the sacramento river delta. one of my stops was this building, of which my polaroid is above.
while i was working on this shot, i talked to a gentleman who’d never seen 4×5 polaroids but shot film in the two 4×5 cameras he used. i also talked briefly with some girls who thought i was shooting video.
the weather this weekend was fantastic. but i’m also pooped. drove several hundred miles, ate lots of junk food, and hand printed more than fifty 5×7s (more on that later) for a project.

boman and i made some images last night on polaroid for a small project. half 54, half 55. i was too tired to process the 55 last night.
i got the 55s all done today. i goofed on one - the film slipped out of its sleeve. all in all, all the 55 positive came out awesome. the negatives look underexposed, as one can expect. but i think they’re morely printable. i already have my eye on the one i want to pick.
now i have more work to do.
i had premeditate the shot before i went to shoot it. i decided that a not quite so perfect studio style shot is good. it’s not like me to accept not totally controlled circumstances. not accept new and perfect gear. but my tastes are changing over time.
have i mentioned how awesome polaroid film is? instant print and negative? awesome tonality? what’s not to love?
i’m getting to the point where i know my shutters. i can meter a scene and usually nail the first exposure.
i want to take these 55s with me tomorrow to show them off, but i really should leave them at home. scratch so easily.
i need to shoot more people. boman is proud of me, im trying new things. i’m proud too. now i need to work on my aggressiveness and motivation.
a 4×5 polaroid is final product enough for me these days. that is, until i get around to working on my darkroom gear.
which reminds me. another free complete darkroom set on craigslist. why don’t have more photo-nerdy friends?

i finally got my heliar 210 mounted on a new metal lens board. the lens and shutter barely fit on the board. the board barely fits in the front standard of my camera. but that’s all i ask for. i plan on trying to get some paint on those bolts/nuts. way too shiny.
no more holding this lens on my camera with cardboard :)
i’m also grateful that boman got me on the right track with my dremel tool. i used it to drill the holes (and then fix one of the holes). then i needed to grind off the side of one of the nuts. go go gadget dremel!

this is a picture of the dolphin resort. the swan and dolphin hotels have been my life for the past week. i am back from sans 2006.
i was going to update at night but found myself too tired to really do much. the days were mostly conference and class work from 9am til 9pm. i met lots of cool people, learned lots of cool things. i have lots of notes, which are on their way to california via u.p.s. ground. when they arrive i’ll annotate my notes with them and post something more substantial.
i have a lot to think about now. briefly, i am not reaching my potential. every workplace has its drawbacks and its sour apples. i definitley know those at my current job. my biggest challenge is being spread so thin. dealing with everything from changing forgotten to passwords to working on site level disaster recovery planning. i really wish i were more specialized. but that’s hard to do at a small company. i need to find a way to manage my time more efficiently. i wish i had a few more days off from work so i can think more about everything.
i’m so tired. i miss eating real food. and california. and ryan and boman.
i have to work on the invites. boman will help me out a little on the techncal details. but i’ll do the rest. good small art project. (did he even wake up today?)
i need to bring this loaner laptop back to work. and format it before i hand it back - i ran some bins from a rooted filesystem on it. it’s totally hosed :)

is there a way to crypto sign blog entries? something that can be used to test if an entry has been edited?
