Posted by Jason on November 28, 2003

not sure how i did this.. it’s what’s on the negative though. maybe it was a long exposure. shot this at salton sea with the kiev-60. could probably benefit from cropping.

up beat

Posted by Jason on November 23, 2003

the weekend was good overall.

  • kycc performance; attended with boman, sandy, peter
  • photogeeking with jon (shot a roll with the voigtlander)
  • diane arbus exhibit at sf-moma
  • rented t3 to make tonight a blockbuster night
  • found a good home for the dcr-pc9 (pr0n-making equipment)
  • more camera-think.
coughing a lot from congestion… same yearly sickness as always..

    only a day away

Posted by Jason on November 23, 2003

tomorrow i’m going up to san francisco to show someone the video camera. then i’m meeting up with a friend to return his photo stuff. plus i’m bringing a camera or two to play with, since the forecast is mostly sunny. then i’m going to see the diane arbus exhibit at sf-moma. this week i’m gonna print from 6×9 negs!

and im talking with sandy/peter/boman i am less sure about my pro camera purchase. turns out our waiter at dinner has a rb67 and had a question about cable releases! mmm, 6×7. i think i’m leaning towards getting a 6×7. maybe with mlu and a fast lens the cameras would be more hand-holdable..

should i get a #87 filter for the kiev?

    *dreaming about cameras..*

    carrier

Posted by Jason on November 20, 2003

here’s an update on my life:

  • got a new (yes, another) camera today
  • i still haven’t developed all the film from my roadtrip
  • i have a photo picked out for camera club next week
  • been superbusy at work; one of my coworkers will be in india for 5 weeks
  • been listening to an 80’s net radio station
  • seeing the matrix movie tonight for the first time
  • and since everybody is making how-well-do-you-know-me quizzes and i am no fun, i will just tell you answers to ten identifying questions about me:

  • i was born in tucson, arizona
  • growing up, my best friend was my only sibling: my little brother
  • i’ve owned offramp.org since 1997, but it existed offline before that for more than a year
  • i’m left handed
  • i’m a college drop-out
  • i currently own 10 cameras
  • i dont eat lamb, seafood, nor mushrooms
  • in school i played the piano
  • my childhood idol was michael j. fox’s character from family ties
  • for years my favourite consumer audio brand has been sony
  • by the way..

i took these at a party. i was bummed that nothing i shot really turned out. it was an experiment, so i guess the only thing i lost was time.

shot with a lomo action sampler; kodak p3200; rodinal(1+24) for 12-20 minutes

    i wish i had a river 4

Posted by Jason on November 13, 2003

    it’s coming on Christmas
    they’re cutting down trees
    they’re putting up reindeer
and singing songs of joy and peace
    oh i wish i had a river
    i could skate away on..

    but it don’t snow here
    it stays pretty green
i’m going to make a lot of money
then i’m going to quit this crazy scene
    i wish i had a river
    i could skate away on..

now this is getting things done

Posted by Jason on November 12, 2003

    got thing done today.

  • renewed lease for only $25/mo increase. i’m sure this will disappoint those who want me to buy a place — ah well.
  • bought some used heavy-guage development reels for $4 less each than the new cheap ones
  • finally got my car’s oil changed and tires reinflated — less noises while driving means less stress for driver
  • picked up the the negative, the second ansel adams series book. maybe now i can learn how to do things the proper way.
  • taking tonight off to relax.

    russian colour

Posted by Jason on November 06, 2003

a scan from my first color roll in the kiev. i think i’ll pass on color for now until i know what i’m doing.. or get a camera that can do more of the thinking. this frame turned out kind of surreal. a combination of the equipment, the exposure and the crazy scan.

    still honorable, i think.

    today was an interesting day.

this morning at the coffee shop i read the palo alto daily. the police blotter had an entry that caught my attention: Monday. 1500 Block Mariposa Avenue. 7:35AM. 3 Pumpkins were stollen from a man’s porch. it must have been a slow day.

i had dinner at kfc. inside the restaurant, as you leave, there’s an image of the colonel saying, “hasta maana!“. i love california.

on my way to the palo alto art center, i saw a license plate whose border read: tongan pride.

finally, i showed two prints at the pacc print night meeting. though neither of my prints placed or got honorable mention, i was still proud of them and got some good feedback and compliments on them. i was watching the judge sort out the prints; mine were the first to be ruled out.

oh ya, i also bought five boxes of film :-)

    go climb a rock!

Posted by Jason on November 04, 2003

took my little stepbrother rock climbing. we talked about all sorts of stuff.. more camera/photography stuff, about my childhood and what i used to do, and about wine. it was a nice way to spend the evening. i missed seeing my dad and stepmom, since they went to see simon and garfunkel at the hp pavillion.

    nice holga, mister!

Posted by Jason on November 02, 2003

i was at golden gate park today when a guy was watching me take pictures. he took one of me on the bridge.. i was focusing my camera on the flower conservatory building. i saw he was leaving, and i was curious about what camera he was using.. so i intercepted him. turns out it was a holga (and made me think of spacenuke.. hehe). i struck up a conversation with him, about my holgas. i told him a brief synopsys of my history of camera obcession and showed him the 30mm on my kiev-60. was fun.
