this weekend i saw some photography in a gallery in san jose. it was very inspiring. the artist employed some techniques i’ve used myself, so it was neat to see some “real” work similar to mine that was on sale. i want to spend more time on my photography. what are my short- and long-term goals?
i also got some errands run this weekend. i bought a new plant and some parts for my backup server. also did some brainthinking about photo stuff.
this morning: enumerate all i’d like to get done this week, workwise and otherwise.
this week: high gear at work, camera club on wednesday, dinner with dad, help ryan plan/prep for his party
i’ve also decided that photography has been so much on my mind lately that i should concentrate elsewhere this week (aside from validating my new meter and catching up on development) and then take some personal time off next week for shooting.

i was reading up on photography supply stores in san francisco, when i came upon this one post on photo.net. after talking about which stores are good and which ones are bad, the posting ended: as with anything photography, dress in all black and you’ll get more attention… even if you don’t know anything about photography :-)

my old garage-sale gossen light meter broke. today i picked up a new scout-3. it does feel as cheap/plasticky as people say. but it does exactly what i need and doesn’t cost too much. i was going to buy it up ess-eff but adolph-gasser doesnt carry gossen meters in stock. what are the good photo stores in the city?

yesterday around seven o’clock in the evening i was driving west on the san mateo bridge. there was a wavy line of pelicans flying west, following the bridge accross the bay. when i caught up to them i looked out my passenger window, watching the pelicans fly next to me. it was so beautiful.

been working (read: rushing) for a contest deadline. just a few moments ago i got a call from one of the contest people with the address to UPS my slides to. if the slides turn out okay, all i have to do is label them, complete the entry form, and be at the UPS office at 10am on saturday morning. then it’s all over (for now).

this morning on npr i heard a story about how large international tourism companies charging u.s. prices are completely wiping out the local economy. in the seventies, cancun was a mosquito infested swamp, says the reporter. today, cancun is a city of 400,000 people and sees 2.5 million tourists each year.

a server at work crashed hard.
then a user obliterated a crapload of records out of our financials system.
then i got annoyed by my cube being in a different building than the machines i support and went off on a coworker.
then i put my ear to my work cell, not knowing speaker phone was turned on, then went deaf in my right ear when the coworker spoke. almost an hour later, my ear is still ringing.
so much for having fun tonight.

this morning i walked into a starbucks wearing my google tshirt. “good morning, google!” this lady said. “good morning starbucks!”.. the other girls there chuckled. good morning google! good morning starbucks! it went on a few more times. i told them about how i got the google shirt. oh, he’s a tshirt collector, give him one of the meriwest shirts. so one of them went in the back and got a tshirt for me. the credit union is always giving them shirts, one of them told me. i thanked them and was on my way to work with an espresso drink, a cheese danish, and a new tshirt.

i’m thinking about getting a epson 3200 to scan 6×6 negs with. it’s gotten good reviews but doesn’t have a great mechanism for holding onto 120 film. it seems far better than anything else. it holds its own to the real neg scanners that cost as much as automobiles.

last night my coworker don and i attended a palo alto camera club meeting. it was pretty fun. announcements and updates, the judge introduced himself, then a critique of members’ works being shown followed by a judging. the people seemed pretty friendly. and i didn’t feel too intimidated by it. something i could see myself being a part of. the joke between me and don was how everybody was going digital, where i’m going the complete opposite direction.
