turned into theme parks

we are the youth of a nation

Posted by Jason on June 30, 2003

p.o.d.’s song, youth of a nation reminds me of the movie, pump up the volume. a movie i’m adding to my collection today.

everybody knows that the dice are loaded
everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
everybody knows that the war is over
everybody knows the good guys lost
everybody knows the fight was fixed
the poor stay poor, the rich get rich
that’s how it goes
everybody knows
everybody knows that the boat is leaking
everybody knows that the captain lied
everybody got this broken feeling
like their father or their dog just died

everybody talking to their pockets
everybody wants a box of chocolates
and a long stem rose
everybody knows …

dessert!

yesterday i was inspired and made coffee flavoured white chocolate candies. they turned out pretty well. i need to figure out how to keep them solid/nonmelting at room temperature, though. but this was definitely a good start.

feels like the first time.

so last time my cablemodem was out i was without service for four days and made over a dozen phone calls before my connection came back. when it was back in service, i noticed my cablemodem was on a different network.. must have been a weird problem.

so this saturday, my cablemodem goes out during the day. it was clearly not me, as i wasn’t home, nobody’s authorized to go into my phone, and i have no pets to disturb my things. i call comcast. they will make a service appointment with me: i must be present during a four hour window for someone to come out. if they find it’s a non-comcast issue, i may be charged. i explain that nobody
at all was around my stuff so it wasn’t likely anything in my apartment. yes, do you agree to what i’ve said? fine, sure.

so their earliest appointment is monday. this means i’m automatically out of service for three days. their monday timeslot conflicts with work (yes, i actually /work/ during weekdays!) so the next appointment is tuesday. great, four days. so ya, come out. i schedule to take a half day off of work.

tuesday rolls around and the guy shows up. he fumbles around in the junction box outside and my connection comes back. he didn’t actually fix anything, just moved the cables around a bit. something must be loose. so i sign the paper and he’s off. i get back to work.

not more than a day later, my connection is out again. i call support again. i tell the guy i’m seeing the same symptoms as were fixed just yesterday, i already know the diagnosis script they put their customers through.. ya, ya, i did all that. so let’s schedule an appointment. do i really need to take off another half day of work? the problem is clearly outside. i tell the guy what notes to put in the case. he makes a point to mention he’s putting in my words and that he can make no determination what the issue is. but what i’m telling him is from one of THEIR TECHS that came just yesterday to solve the problem i’m having again today. ok, fine. appointment? friday. crap, wednesday, thursday, and part of friday out again. that makes 7 out of 8 days. fine, eight a.m. til noon.

is there anything else i can help you with today? apparently not.

sshhh.

alan parson’s cloudbreak in dts at moderately high volume is so incredible. come over and listen to it, you’ll easily see why i favor the dts format for music. and on this system, it’s so incredibly clear. i wounder how it would sound through tubes. i’ve had tubes on my mind. first is the camera.

ive been enjoying my time alone. it’s so nice. sometimes it’s a little too quiet. it’s kind of weird, the pool outside isn’t occupied by kids as it usually is every evening.

i was planning on going out for a walk, but i still have stuff around the house i’d like to do. after this song.

not my day

my car was dad, needed a jumpstart. wrecked the driver-side hinge on the hood of my car. spilled wine on my jeans and shirt (and my undershirt). came home to find my cablemodem down (i have an “appointment” from noon-four-pm on monday?!?!?!!). and i have to be into work at 8am tomorrow (sunday).

this weekend is so packed with crap im gonna go bonkers. i mean, worse than i am currently.

. + . sparkles . + .

goodnight, my angel
now it’s time to dream
and dream how wonderful your life will be
someday your child may cry
and if you sing this lullabye
then in your heart
there will always be a part of me

someday we’ll all be gone
but lullabyes go on and on…
they never die
that’s how you
and i
will be

spend my saturday with boman in esseff.

brunch. american breakfast. i asked for eggs and bacon. i got potatoes, which i didn’t touch. the waittress didn’t comment as i’d hoped she would

rollerblading lesson. took place in golden gate park.

bummed around.

dinner then wine. this took six hours. dinner was indian/pakistani. then a nice walk. then we went to a wine bar. boman talked to his bar neighbords and i talked to mine. mine was a guy from atherton named perry. in hospitality. graduated from cal. going to cornell next. (snow!) and dessert wine with dessert. we let the bartender pick the dessert and wine. oh man, everything was so incredible.

oh ya, i also bought a new shirt. boman has the picture.

everybody should have boman days as i do.

the good, the bad, and whatever’s left

Posted by Jason on June 06, 2003

good: made a new friend last night, nick. plus he lives close.

bad: starbucks this morning was quiet. i ordered “extra hot” since i know sb employees generally don’t care about the temperature of their product. it was still usual/sub temperature.

good: my best friend boman posts a sexy pic on his lj blog.

bad: none of the windows backups worked last night. and we’re out of tapes.

this weekend: moobie on saturday. sunday? i forget. don from work wants to go shoot fotos. i should.

the self and the digital camera 1

Posted by Jason on June 04, 2003

tim’s posting house pictures his mom took reminds me of when my mom got a digital camera. in the first week, i think it was, silly self portraits showed up on her computer. i think people are drawn to themselves when they can so easily do so. webcams, especially. you can tell by watching a webcam that the broadcast is watching themselves as well. speaking of that, the one thing i dont like about webcams is seeing someone who i’m talking to, only to realize that they’re laughing and reacting to things i’m not telling or talking about. hrm..

another photo geek

Posted by Jason on June 04, 2003

yesterday i learned a coworker is also into photography. he showed me his digital slr he just got. sweetness! his style is similar to mine as far as i can tell. he was interested in going out together and shooting some time. he’s fairly new to the bay area (he transferred here from our boston site). could be fun.

taking a music break today at work. dream theatre’s “anna lee” on high volume.

good morning, brain.

Posted by Jason on June 02, 2003

my brain’s been active today so far. last night i remembered a dream i had. i was part of a cross-country team and we were training, planning to run across a bridge. we were half way across and took a break in some sort of building. we explored the building.. i was walking around with my running partner. we found another level below and i went down a little further. i was using the little flashlight on my keychain to see. i looked down through an openening and saw a picture of a middleeastern man laying on a table. what do you see? i told my partner, i’ll tell you later. it felt very suspicious. so on our way out we both got stopped by middle-eastern men who started questioning us. i dont remember much more, except that we got questioned over and over again.

then this morning i went to the amc mercado area to pick up something at starbucks. i was driving down the main driveway there when a male/female couple of mallard ducks flew over my car and landed right in the middle of the road where i was driving. i stopped. i steered around them.. they weren’t going to move. it was really weird. almost like they didn’t want me to go.

then later this morning i was waiting in line at starbucks when all of a sudden i felt someone’s hand on my right shoulder– i looked around and nobody was near me. it felt so real i swore someone had touched me. it felt pretty creepy.

investing in dessert

Posted by Jason on June 01, 2003

today i bought what i call, “investement wine”. the kind you collect/purchase and forget about it for a long time. i’ve added to my collection:

  • broadbent, porto, vintage 1994
  • taylor fladgate, porto, vintage 2000 (two bottles)
  • i’ll look out for a good dinner party in about the year 2015 or so. i’ll bring some dessert :)

    i’m ok. really!

Posted by Jason on June 01, 2003

today, two bad things happened: first, i burned two fingers on a hot skewer while roasting a bell pepper over a gas flame. then in trying to save a large, heavy glass window from hitting the ground, i didn’t avoid the heavy marble slab that followed it. got a nasty bump on my head from that one.

    ouch!

other than that, my day was stellar. spent it up in SF with my friend boman.. the kind of friend i wish everybody had.
